The One Fast Food Chain Julia Child Couldn't Get Enough Of
By Elaina Friedman
Julia Child was a huge proponent of gourmet ingredients, but she was no snob and had an eclectic love of food. Child occasionally indulged in fast food, and one chain, in particular, earned her praise.
As a native of Pasadena, it's only natural that Child favored the California chain In-N-Out when she had a craving for a burger. Child would carry around a list of In-N-Out locations in her purse and frequently requested burgers while recovering from knee surgery in the hospital.
Jamie West of Santa Barbara's Montecito Club recalled a road trip he took with Child, saying, "On the way up the coast, we ate In-N-Out burgers in the car. On the way back, we went inside to order at the In-N-Out Burger in Santa Maria.” In-N-Out uses quality ingredients, and they serve fresh-cut fries and additive-free burgers, so even celebrity chefs don’t have a problem endorsing it.
