The Oatmeal Brand Ina Garten Has Eaten Every Day For 10 Years
By Kalea Martin
When it comes to the breakfast dishes, celebrity chef Ina Garten likes to take classic recipes, like avocado toast, and elevate them. In an interview with Bon Appétit, Garten revealed that oatmeal has been her breakfast of choice for over 10 years, and she has one go-to brand and a very specific way of preparing it.
When Ina Garten buys oatmeal, she only uses McCann's quick-cooking Irish oatmeal, a type of oatmeal made with unprocessed whole oat groat kernels that are cut with a steel blade. She prepares them simply by combining it with hot water and adding a generous amount of salt, explaining, “I don't want it to taste like wallpaper paste."
This type of oatmeal is sold as “steel cut oats” in America, but since the McCann’s brand isn’t even produced in the U.S., it has to be imported from Ireland. Beyond salt, Garten likes to top her McCann’s oatmeal off with cherries, raisins, and sliced banana.
