The Nutritious Hummus Hack That Tastes Just Like Ice Cream
By Crystal Antonace
Along hummus' upward growth path, the nutritious spread evolved into sweeter varieties. Over the last decade, brands like Cedar's and Boar's Head have released unique dessert-like flavors, and there is another way of enjoying this fantastic spread that may affect your ice cream consumption.
In episode 49 of the Trader Joe's podcast, "Trader Joe's Trips the Light Hacktastic," one crew member discussed freezing tubs of the chocolate delight hummus and eating it right from the tub when frozen. While Aisle of Shame speculates that TJ's chocolate hummus may not be available anymore, you can freeze any other chocolate or dessert hummus to try it yourself.
Freezing hummus to mimic ice cream was not founded by TJ employees, as according to the Vegconomist, The Hummus & Pita Co. released hummus-based ice cream in 2018. Freezing any tub of dessert hummus can change its texture, and you might want to try making homemade hummus ice cream like the one from JVS, which contains soy milk, maple syrup, and vanilla.
