The Number Of Layers Your Lasagna Should Have
By Haldan Kirsch
Requiring little culinary expertise and full of vital nutrients like protein, fats, carbohydrates, and B vitamins, lasagna is a top choice for any family dinner or potluck. With endless additions or dietetic substitutions available, there’s an endless number of ways to prepare your lasagna, but if you’ve ever worried how many layers are needed, you wouldn’t be the first.
From its possible origins in Greece to its transformational stage in Bologna, lasagna has taken on many meaty and cheesy forms; but the amount of layers has always been a key feature. A typical lasagna should have between three and five layers, and a good rule of thumb is to dictate the amount based on the size of your pan.
You don't want your lasagna to look flat or shallow in a large pan, and in this case,
it's best to prepare to come closer to
five layers rather than three. That said, it is important to point out that you can go too far with a lasagna, since over-layering your lasagna or including too many ingredients may cause it to cook unevenly, so choose the amount of layers accordingly.
