The Jar Hack That Can Actually Make Peeling Garlic Enjoyable
By Alexander Billet
To easily peel garlic without getting it under your fingernails, place the cloves in a glass mason jar, tighten the lid, and shake the jar vigorously for about 30 seconds.
The constant motion and friction of the garlic hitting the sides of the jar will cause the skin to fall off, leaving you with clean cloves that are ready to cut.
Be sure to remove the thick, white outer layer of skin on a whole head of garlic beforehand. From there, drop the whole head in the jar and start shaking.
Though it’s a bit more difficult to do, you can replicate this hack using two metal mixing bowls, placing the edges together to make them into a shaking container.
