The Club Soda Trick To Keep Fruit Slices Crisp And Fresh
By Kelly Douglas
Fruit tends to brown quickly once it’s sliced, so if you want to keep it fresh and help it retain its texture, you need to use this quick and easy club soda trick.
To use this trick, place your fruit slices in a glass measuring cup full of club soda and leave them there for 5 minutes, which will slow the browning process and keep them crisp.
Club soda has carbon dioxide and potassium compounds that, when combined, prevent browning better than tonic and sparkling water, since club soda’s mixture has more salt.
This trick works especially well on stone fruits (like peaches and plums), which often get mushy after sitting out, and apples will also become firmer after a club soda soak.
