The Chocolate Brand Ina Garten Can't Stop Using
By Brianna Corley
While Ina Garten’s favorite cocoa powder is the Italian-imported Pernigotti Coca—now known as ChefShop Cocoa Powder—the chocolate brand she uses for her bittersweet chocolate cake is more common, and you've likely gifted it to someone for Valentine's Day. Garten noted in an interview that the chocolate bar she uses has a bittersweet flavor that beats all other bars.
In the interview, Garten revealed Lindt is, hands down, her favorite baking chocolate and explained that she's always sure to have Lindt's larger-than-life Surfin bittersweet chocolate bars handy for baking emergencies. In fact, Garten always prompts at-home bakers to use Lindt chocolate for recreating recipes like her chocolate truffles and chocolate pecan scones.
Garten has admitted that she initially feared she was turning to Lindt out of habit, but a closer look at Lindt's Surfin bittersweet bar reveals why its flavor leaves such an impression. Lindt’s bitter-sweet bars are 49% cocoa, beating out Hershey's semi-sweet baking bars' cocoa content by 7%, and the brand prides itself on being a gourmet chocolate maker that produces its sweets from "bean to bar."
