The Best Way To Cut Apples Without Fancy Tools
By Crystal Antonace
To cut an apple without any gadgets, hold it stem-side up, and make a slice directly next to the stem all the way through. Repeat this method to make three or four even chunks.
Lay the chunks flesh-side down on a cutting board and make even slices through the outer skin and flesh.
Alternatively, you can mimic this method by holding an apple upright and slicing it directly through the center stem. Cut the two remaining portions in half.
From here, use your paring knife to remove the inside sections of the apple core on all four pieces and cut the quadrants into equal slices.
To core an apple with only a paring knife, insert it straight down into the apple four times around the stem, then push out the core with your finger.
