Starbucks' Caramel Macchiato Vs Caramel Brûlée Latte
By Corin MJ Bae
While Starbucks' Caramel Brulée Latte may just seem like a Caramel Macchiato with a crunchy topping, each drink contains distinct elements that make it unique.
The Caramel Macchiato consists of steamed milk and vanilla syrup layered with espresso and finished with a drizzle of caramel, which is surprisingly the only role it plays.
The Caramel Brulée Latte is flavored with winter-exclusive Caramel Brulée Sauce, which marries rich caramel with the smoky sweetness and toasted sugar notes of crème brulée.
This latte is topped with whipped cream and caramel brulée sprinkles, coming in at 410 calories, 48 grams of sugar, 50 milligrams of cholesterol, and 340 milligrams of sodium.
A grande Caramel Macchiato has 250 calories, 33 grams of sugar, 25 milligrams of cholesterol, and 150 milligrams of sodium, making it slightly healthier than the Caramel Brulée.
Both standard drinks contain dairy, but while you can make a dairy-free Caramel Macchiato with plant-based milk and caramel syrup, the Caramel Brulée Sauce has skim milk powder.
