Smashed Pickle Salad Was Created For True Pickle Lovers
By Alli Neal
If you're looking for a way to class up your pickles, there's a verdant dish you should know about: the smashed pickle salad.
As seen in a New York Times Facebook video, this easy dish takes a smashed cucumber salad and turns it on its head. Start with one whole pickle or four spears per person.
Smash the pickles, then add chopped fresh dill, celery, and sliced red onions. Toss the mash with sour cream fortified with mayonnaise and thinned with a spoonful of pickle brine.
The result is a tangy, creamy, crunchy, and cold salad. You can eat it on its own or use it as a condiment for hot dogs, burgers, and sandwiches.
The New York Times recommends serving the dish with fried, greasier foods because the tanginess helps to punch through the heaviness of the oil and breading.
