Shake Up Your Usual Scalloped Potatoes With A Delicious Tomato Swap
By Jessica Fleming-Montoya
While scalloped potatoes are certainly an easy-to-make and delicious side dish, there's another platter with a similar name that you can try: scalloped tomatoes.
Also called breaded tomatoes, this recipe differs from its potato namesake and doesn't contain the rich, creamy sauce, but it's still a tasty side dish.
It's made primarily of tomatoes and bread baked together in a casserole dish to form a flavorful and hearty side. You can also top it with cheese to add a gooey golden finish.
Many recipes also add a dash of brown sugar to help balance out the acidity of the tomatoes and add a touch of sweetness.
When it comes to seasoning, you can keep it simple with salt and pepper, but you can also play around with different herbs and spices to add depth and taste.
The resulting meal won't be at all similar to scalloped potatoes, but it's still a simple, fast, and, most importantly, tasty side to have up your sleeve.
