Pizza Night Just Got Better With An Unexpected Hot Dog Spin
By Laura Zbinden
Pizza hot dogs substitute mustard and ketchup for your favorite pizza toppings, offering a cheesy flavor fusion suitable for meals, parties, and Sunday night football.
Start by adding melted butter and garlic powder to the inside of your buns. Bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for five minutes.
Once your buns are ready, add pizza sauce and a pre-cooked hot dog. Top it with mozzarella cheese and your favorite pizza topping, like pepperoni.
Finally, broil the pizza dogs for two minutes or until all the cheese is melted. While this method makes a classic pizza dog, there are other ways to jazz up this delicious recipe.
For fancier pizza dogs, buy one pound of refrigerated pizza dough, six hot dogs, and three mozzarella cheese sticks cut in half. First, divide the dough into six even pieces.
Wrap the dough around each hot dog with a stick of halved string cheese, put them on a greased pan, and bake them at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes.
You can also make a meat-lovers-inspired pizza dog like Youtuber DefinitelyNotGourmet. Wrap the hot dog in bacon and cook it on the skillet until the bacon starts to brown.
Then, set the bacon hot dogs inside hot dog buns and top with sauce, cheese, and pepperoni before baking them in the oven.
