Ordering A 'Soup Burrito' At Chipotle Is A Red Flag For Employees
By Chase Shustack
If you ask for a burrito filled with liquids like hot sauce, salsa, sour cream, barbacoa, and queso at Chipotle, you’re ordering what employees refer to as a “soup burrito.” While you may find this kind of saucy burrito delicious, the item infuriates Chipotle employees when you ask them to make you one.
Per a Chipotle employee, all the liquidy ingredients in a soup burrito condense into a single, soupy mixture that seeps into the tortilla, causing the "soup" to drip out of the burrito or the tortilla to tear apart. Naturally, the messy and complicated task of wrapping and serving the item without ruining the burrito causes many employees intense grief.
One Chipotle employee noted on the Reddit thread r/Chipotle, "I've been telling GM for years we need to limit all liquids to 2 servings on burritos. We get too many negative surveys for soup burritos." Among several other negative comments, another employee sneered, “Don't blame this soup burrito on me. You scoop from the bottom and fail to strain. It's disgusting honestly."
