McDonald's secret menu has several delicious options, but the grilled cheese sandwich is particularly notable because it used to be on McDonald's kids' menu. Today, asking for a grilled cheese may surprise or confuse the chain's employees, but there's a simple way to order one off the secret menu without baffling anyone.
Per Cheapism, if you ask for "one cheeseburger, hold the burger," the employee will know not to put any meat on your order, resulting in a grilled cheese. Depending on which type of burger you order as the "base" for your grilled cheese, you can get lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, onion, and even Big Mac sauce as toppings to elevate your sandwich.
There are multiple grilled cheese "styles" at McDonald's, but if you're not into toppings, you can explain that you just want the cheese. You can model your grilled cheese after any burger type; for example, if you order your grilled cheese as a "Big Mac," you'll receive melty cheese between three slices of bread.
