Level Up Your Burger And Switch Out The Bun For Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
By Stacie Adams
A grilled-cheese burger might sound like something Homer Simpson would dream up, but replacing burger buns with grilled cheese sandwiches creates an impressive dish.
As the basis for your grilled-cheese burger, your sandwiches must be on point to ensure the dish lives up to expectations and doesn't end up being a soggy mess.
Set a skillet over your stove burner with medium-high heat. Once it reaches the right temperature, place your bread slices on it with the butter-mayo side facing down.
Add a combo of shredded American and cheddar cheeses to the bread in the pan, then top with the remaining slices (making sure the butter-mayo side is pointing up).
Flip the sandwiches, and press down on them with a spatula. After a few minutes, flip again and cook for another minute before removing them from the skillet.
Instead of using a fat, juicy burger, smash the patties to help the meat lay flat and effectively retain its juices, keeping your dual grilled cheese sandwiches intact as you eat.
