It's Time To Start Utilizing The Pit Hole In Your Halved Avocado
By Ryan Loughlin
After removing the pit from your avocado, the pit hole usually goes unnoticed. However, there are ways to use this space creatively, ranging from a dressing holder to a shot glass.
First, cut an avocado lengthwise all the way around, twist it open, and remove the round pit. Set it aside and prepare to make a deconstructed, spoon-friendly guacamole.
Squeeze a bit of lime juice in the pit hole and drop some diced onions and cilantro on top. Sprinkle kosher salt and then use the spoon to scoop out the deconstructed guac.
For a different way to use the pit hole, add a bit of vinegar to balance its richness. Then, add a few chopped shallots and sprinkle on some sprouts and microgreens.
Get creative beyond guacamole and salads by using the pit hole for unique recipes, such as enjoying shots of tequila or creating a simple B.A.T. snack with bacon and tomatoes.
Try baking an egg in the center or adding grilled corn with melted butter and chili powder into the hole. Ensure the avocado is ripe for the best flavor and texture.
