Is It Safe To Grill Frozen Hamburger Patties Directly From The Freezer?
By Laura Zbinden
Luckily, it’s possible to grill still-frozen hamburger patties to make a burger that’s safe to eat. However, doing so requires a few extra steps to ensure they cook to perfection.
The most important step is to ensure your frozen patties cook all the way through. According to the USDA, improperly cooked frozen meat may contain harmful bacteria.
Frozen patties should reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Frozen burgers take longer to reach this temperature, so budget extra time for grilling.
To cook your frozen patties to the right temperature without drying them out, grill them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 15 minutes, flipping regularly.
To season the patty, grill one side for a few minutes and then flip it and season the warm side. Repeat on the other side to ensure your seasoning sticks to the meat.
To prevent the meat’s fat from dripping into the grill and causing a fire, cook the patties over indirect heat. This means placing the burger away from the grill’s flame.
