Ina Garten's Secret Ingredient Elevates Margaritas To A New Level
By Arianna Endicott
Ina Garten is well-known for her party-perfect recipes, including an entire cocktail section of 26 different recipes featured on her website. Some recipes are simply the original creations while others include instructions on how to elevate well-known drinks, and the celebrity chef has a secret trick to add some kick to your margarita.
Garten's version of the drink has everything a typical Blanco Margarita recipe combines like lime juice, tequila, triple sec, and a little salt on the rim of the glass, but she also includes a spicy addition — jalapeno peppers. However, she doesn't just slice the peppers and drop them in the drinks, instead, she preps the liquor by allowing the jalapenos to infuse.
Keeping the seeds and ribs intact, Garten cuts ten slits into each pepper, places them in a glass, and adds 1 ½ cups of tequila. After waiting a full day, she removes the peppers and strains the tequila through a sieve, resulting in a slightly spicy flavor that is perfect with a little honey.
