Ina Garten's Clever Trick For A Moist And Tender Meatloaf
By Camryn Teder
Meatloaf can be a hard dish to get right. If your experience with meatloaf has been less than stellar, try switching up the preparation for some extra juicy and savory qualities.
Ina Garten has a clever trick for a moist and tender meatloaf. When baking this dish in the oven, Garten suggests placing a pan filled with water on the lower rack while it cooks.
This simple addition surrounds the meatloaf with steam, preventing it from drying out. Instead, it will become especially moist as it soaks up all that extra vapor.
Simply fill a baking pan with warm or hot water and stick it on the rack underneath your meatloaf while it cooks — any size pan works, even a muffin pan with each cup filled up.
This tip also ensures that your meatloaf bakes evenly without cracking. Baking a meatloaf without using Garten's steam trick can lead to a tough, rubbery end product.
