If You're Making Homemade Garlic Bread, Skip The Melted Butter
By Kuamel Stewart
Pouring melted butter over bread is a common cooking step when making garlic bread, but it can lead to an uneven distribution of butter and create a mess.
Using softened butter is a more effective alternative to prevent a mess and ensure that melted buttery goodness is in every crevice of your bread once it cooks.
You could also skip the butter altogether and use a substitute like olive oil. Coating your bread with olive oil before cooking will create garlic bread that is moist and tender.
Swap the melted butter for some Italian cheese, such as the piquant Pecorino or the fruity and zesty Taleggio, and sprinkle it on your garlic bread before roasting.
Opt for margarine if you'd like a comparable taste to butter in your garlic bread. Unlike butter, margarine doesn't contain animal fats and is made from plant-based oils.
For those who prefer tart and tangy flavors, a light layer of mayonnaise is a great option, and if you prefer heat on your garlic bread, don't be afraid to try out hot sauces.
