If You Fancy Jägermeister, The Jägerita Is For You
By Wendy Gould
In an era that counts MSG martinis and other inventive takes on classic cocktails as de rigeur, it may be worthwhile to let Jäger see beyond the shot glass for once. Here's how the Jägerita, a take on the margarita that replaces tequila with Jägermeister, came to be and how to make it at home.
Jeffrey Morgenthaler, a bartender from Portland, Oregon, said that the Jägerita was "the best drink [he'd] ever had in [his] life" when he first tasted it in 2008. His version features an ounce and a half Jägermeister, three-quarters of an ounce of Cointreau, lime juice, and simple syrup thrown into a blender with some crushed ice, then garnished with a lime wheel.
YouTube creator Nick Fisher has made both shaken and blended versions of the Jägerita. The chestnut-hued shaken version features the complimentary flavors of Jägermeister and Cointreau, both of which boast notes of orange peel, while the blended version looks like a honey-colored slushie and mutes the complex flavors of the amaro ever so slightly.
