How To Bring Life Back Into Your Frozen Soups
By Crystal Antonace
Whether microwaving your frozen leftover soup in 30-second intervals or adding a small amount of water and reheating it on your stovetop, the texture may be subpar.
If you want to add a little more crunch to your favorite leftover soup or stew, adding a handful of fresh vegetables toward the end of the reheating process will do the trick.
Another great way to add complexity and newness to your frozen soup stash is by using your favorite crunchy toppings.
Crackers are a known traditional add-in, but you can reheat your soup with toasted seeds, a sprinkling of capers or olives, or some lightly seasoned croutons.
If you're a big cheese fan but crave an additional crunchy element, you can bake small flattened spoonfuls of grated parmesan cheese to make crisps.
Adding solid foods can also thicken your soup. Try a flavorful substitute like chicken or vegetable broth instead of adding water when reheating to maintain its liquid texture.
The ingredients of frozen soup also tend to blend together to create a predictable flavor profile. To combat this, add a hint of citrus juice or a touch of sugar.
