How One Man Ended Up Marrying A Hard MTN Dew
By Camryn Teder
Many people make the trek to Las Vegas to get married every year, and many celebrity couples have even been married in Vegas under the watchful eye of an Elvis impersonator. However, a man from Indiana recently made the trip to get married — not to a girlfriend or boyfriend, but a can of Hard Mtn Dew.
The Boston Beer Company, which produces the PepsiCo-owned Hard Mtn Dew product, held a contest in August 2022 where a lucky fan could marry a can of hard soda in Las Vegas. Indiana citizen Thomas Rank flew out to Nevada to be pronounced “fan and can” at the Little Vegas Chapel.
In the end, the marriage was simply a marketing ploy by the Boston Beer Company, but Rank did receive a three-day stay in a Las Vegas suite, a reception at a club, and $1,000 in spending money. Ironically, Rank admitted after the wedding that his favorite flavor of the Hard Mtn Dew is cherry, not the original flavor he married.
