How Long Will Your Store-Bought Salsa Last Once Opened?

Buying store-bought salsa has a lot of benefits, but if you pop one open and don't eat it all right away, it can last as little as one week or as long as four weeks in the fridge.
The preservatives in the jar of salsa you buy could also determine its shelf life. Natural preservatives like salt and vinegar help vegetables in homemade salsa stay fresh.
Store-bought salsas containing preservatives like xanthan gum, sodium benzoate, and calcium chloride will last longer, but check the expiration date, as it varies by brand.
However, it's good practice to check the color or scent of a jar of salsa when you first open it and monitor it for any discoloration, mold, or funky smells.
If a month has passed and the salsa appears fine, it's best to toss it in your compost bin and recycle the jar to be on the safe side.
