How Duck Dynasty Once Caused A Cracker Barrel Scandal
By Aimee Lamoureux
The popular A&E series “Duck Dynasty,” centered around the Robertson family business Duck Commander, attracted a record-breaking 11.8 million viewers at its peak. However, the Roberston family’s conservative views tended to cause controversy, and Cracker Barrel happened to get caught up in one of the scandals in 2013.
In December 2013, Phil Robertson shared his controversial beliefs on homosexuality, causing immediate backlash. This caused Cracker Barrel to announce that they would be pulling "selected [Duck Commander] products which we were concerned might offend some of our guests while we evaluate the situation."
As soon as they decided to remove certain Duck Commander products, Cracker Barrel received backlash from fans, causing them to reverse their decision only a day later. While the initial controversy stirred up negative attention, Cracker Barrel's flip-flopping views on the matter only made the scandal worse.
