Here's How Long Your Sweet Potatoes Must Be In The Slow Cooker
By Riya Anne Polcastro
While many meats will become even more tender with a couple of extra hours in a slow cooker, other foods like sweet potatoes will fall apart and turn to mush.
The time frame to shoot for is six to eight hours on a low setting, but if you're unsure whether they're done, stick a fork in them around the six-hour mark.
If they're not done, check on them again in another half-hour or hour, but just be aware that each time the lid opens, it will likely add a few more minutes to the cooking time.
The exact time it takes to cook them depends on whether you cook them whole or cut them into chunks. Chunks run more of a risk of breaking down than whole potatoes in their skins.
If you're dealing with extra large whole sweet potatoes, cooking blogger Laura Fuentes recommends using the high setting and letting them go all day.
