Here's How Long You Can Keep A Bottle Of Apple Cider Vinegar
By Jennifer Sweenie
Including apple cider vinegar in your daily diet can be incredibly beneficial to your health, so it’s a no-brainer to keep a bottle in your kitchen. Once you pick some up at your grocery store, learning about the vinegar’s fermentation process will help you understand more about this versatile product’s shelf-life.
To make apple cider vinegar, they feed yeast crushed apples in the form of apple juice, and as the yeast eats the sugar in the liquid, it becomes alcohol. When oxygen is introduced to the alcohol, natural bacteria ferment the liquid for a few weeks or months, breaking down the alcohol into acetic acid and turning it into vinegar.
Thanks to all of that acetic acid formed during the fermentation process, apple cider vinegar has an indefinite shelf life, as well as antimicrobial properties that keep it safe for consumption. As long as it's kept in a cool, dark place, a closed bottle of apple cider vinegar will retain its flavor, nutrition, and integrity forever.
