Here's How Costco's Sheet Cake Measures Up To The Competition

Costco customers were upset to hear that the COVID-19 pandemic forced the company to discontinue its half-sheet cakes and only sell the smaller 10-inch rounds instead. However, in July 2022, Costco's half-sheet cakes returned, and their hype still holds up against the competition.
According to Bakery Cakes Prices, a Costco half-sheet cake will cost a meager $18.99, while a similar half-sheet from Sam's Club costs nearly twice as much at $39, BJ's half-sheet cakes are sold at $24, and Walmart sells theirs for $25. Furthermore, Costco's half-sheet cake provides 48 servings, meaning it should only cost about $.39 per person to feed almost 50 people.
Costco's half-sheet cakes have their own devoted following, most likely due to the cake's interior layer of cheesecake or chocolate mousse filling that separates the two cake layers. Taste of Home also says the Costco half-sheet is the best option for anyone looking to pick up dessert for a crowd, although it is only offered in chocolate and vanilla flavors.
