Frighten Your Guests This Halloween With Spider Web Deviled Eggs
By Betsy Parks
If your go-to party pleaser is deviled eggs, make a platter of spooky spider web snacks this Halloween. All you need is food coloring to give eggs that creepy, cracked look.
After your eggs are hard-boiled and chilled in a water bath, gently crack them in spots around the perimeter with the back of a spoon. Don't peel the eggs yet.
Mix blue or purple food coloring in a bowl of water, put the eggs in the water, and refrigerate for two hours. The dye seeps into the cracks, giving the whites a spider web look.
Take the eggs out of the water and peel the shells. Slice them in half, scoop out the yolks, and mix them with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, spices, salt, and pepper.
Add a few drops of green food coloring, and spoon the mix into the spider web egg whites or use a pastry bag to pipe it.
Sprinkle black sesame seeds for a macabre look, or halve a black olive and add a caper in the center for a creepy eyeball look that’ll rock the graveyard.
