For A Well-Designed Charcuterie Board, Organize Your Ingredients First
By Riya Anne Polcastro
Crafting a well-designed charcuterie board boils down to preparation and presentation. It's helpful to gather your ingredients beforehand to plan your layout thoughtfully.
You should do prep work, like slicing salami, chopping veggies, or filling ramekins, beforehand to know what needs to go on the board first and what should be placed last.
Start by placing the largest items first, like ramekins, small vessels, and whole wheels or large wedges of cheese, especially soft cheeses like Brie or Camembert.
Next, reach for sliced meats and cheeses and fan them across the board. Spread them out evenly to avoid having all the meat on one side and cheese on the other.
Distribute crackers and bread evenly across the board, and place any sliced veggies or fruit in piles or arrange them in different designs, such as a fanned circle of celery sticks.
Smaller items like nuts and dried fruits can be scattered throughout the remaining space. It's okay for there to be some overlap, but you want people to see their options easily.
