Evenly Thaw Ice Cream Using An Obvious Yet Overlooked Hack
By Julia Mullaney
Scooping ice cream straight out of the freezer can be difficult, but moving it from your freezer to your fridge 30 minutes before serving is a simple way to thaw it perfectly.
You can't always predict when you'll crave ice cream, but if you know you plan to treat yourself to a bowl after dinner, pop it in the refrigerator before you sit down to eat.
This trick evenly thaws your ice cream. Keep in mind that as it softens, it could cause condensation, so put a paper towel or dish under the carton to avoid getting the shelf wet.
If you need your ice cream right that minute, you can pop the whole carton in the microwave for a few seconds. It won't result in even defrosting, but it's the quickest method.
You can also run warm water over the sides of the carton to soften the ice cream. Pints of ice cream thaw quicker than large containers, so keep that in mind when buying more.
