Egg Lasagna: A Delicious Breakfast Spin On The Classic Dish
By Arianna Endicott
Having lasagna for breakfast will prove to be heavy on your empty stomach. Fortunately, there's an easy way to turn this classic Italian dish into a breakfast meal.
Lasagna noodles will still make up the base of this altered dish, and instead of marinara sauce and ground beef, you can swap in bacon bits and eggs.
Start by cooking the bacon to a crisp and save some of its grease for the sauce. Then, hard boil a dozen eggs and slice them up, or you can use scrambled eggs.
Using the leftover bacon grease, sauté some onions and add flour, seasonings, and milk to create a roux. This sauce will replace the marinara in the lasagna.
Spread a thin layer of sauce on the pan and add a layer of noodles, topped with the egg slices, bacon bits, and cheese. Then, add more sauce and repeat the process.
Once the dish is full, sprinkle some extra cheese on top and let it bake. When the lasagna is done, allow it to cool before slicing and serving.
