Does Distilled Water Taste Any Different Than Regular Tap?
By Chase Shustack
Drinking distilled water is possible, and it is a safe choice if you don't have access to clean water. However, it doesn't taste the same as regular water.
Distilled water is water that has been purified through steam distillation, which is the process of collecting steamed water that has been re-liquified.
This distillation process refines the water down to its purest elements — hydrogen and oxygen — whereas tap water contains minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
Distilled water is described as tasting flat and lacking a certain crispness or flavor found in regular tap or bottled water due to its lack of minerals.
It has no harmful side effects, but its flat flavor makes it an acquired taste for some. In addition to drinking, its lack of minerals makes distilled water perfect for cleaning.
