Can You Really Make Coffee From Unground Beans?
By Natasha Brooks
While many coffee drinkers prefer to buy their blends already ground, there’s nothing that beats the intoxicating aroma of freshly ground coffee. However, if you want that aroma in your kitchen but don’t have a coffee grinder, there are other methods to extract that caffeinated goodness.
While you can substitute a coffee grinder for a mortar and pestle or countertop blender, you can also make coffee from unground beans if you have the time. You’ll need twice the amount of coffee and much more time than you would for pre-ground coffee.
Fans of whole bean coffee swear by a one-hour stovetop method where you keep the temperature at a simmer until extraction is complete. Whether you are stuck with whole beans and no coffee grinder or you simply want to experiment with different coffee brewing methods, have fun and enjoy that java.
