Air-Fry Your Lettuce For A Super Crispy Salad
By Crystal Antonace
If you're looking for a new way to spice up your salad, try air frying your lettuce to make it slightly crispy and boost the flavor of your next meal.
TikTok user Alexa Rae Loebel posted a video where she drizzles romaine lettuce in avocado oil and cooks the leaves in her air fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for four minutes.
She then adds the rest of her salad ingredients to the crispy lettuce. However, carefully consider the type of greens you purchase if you plan on putting them in an air fryer.
Due to their lightweight structure, spring and loose-leaf greens may not develop a crispy texture. Baby greens will blow around the air fryer with no textural differences.
You're better off sticking to weightier greens that can handle the air fryer's convection-like fan, such as kale or romaine lettuce.
A little oil will give lettuce a new and exciting texture. Without oil, those precious leafy greens may wilt and turn soft instead of providing that signature crunchy texture.
Be mindful of the time. You can leave romaine in an air fryer for up to four minutes, but you may need more or less time depending on how much lettuce you add to the fryer basket.
