A Sourdough 'Boat' Is The Best Way To Enjoy Eggs For Dinner
By Ashlyn Frassinelli
Eggs, sourdough bread, and cheese are a match made in culinary heaven. With some creativity, this simple combination becomes a perfect dinner that's sure to please.
Cut a "V" shape into the top of a sourdough demi-baguette to hollow out the interior, creating a canoe shape into which you can pour your additional ingredients.
Add a layer of shredded cheese and a whisked combination of eggs, heavy cream, more cheese, pancetta, and chopped green onions, then bake it in the oven for 30 minutes.
Rather than just placing it on a baking tray, wrap the baguette in foil so the bread doesn't burn or turn hard. Leave an opening at the top to thoroughly cook the egg mixture.
Sourdough works better than French bread because it has a little extra body, especially in the crust. Its deep, complex, and tangy flavor complements the other ingredients.
You can also try other ingredients for a different flavor, like Swiss cheese and mushrooms or ham, bacon, and cheddar. Chopped spinach and parmesan also make an excellent pairing.
