A Mason Jar Can Help You Make Perfect Fried Eggs
By Chase Shustack
If you’ve ever been to McDonald’s and ordered an Egg McMuffin, you’ve probably noticed their round egg. It resembles a perfect patty shape but with a firm yolk and no burnt edges.
McDonald's uses what is known as an "egg ring," or a metal ring, to get those egg patties. As long as you have a mason jar ring, you can easily make perfectly round eggs.
Unscrew the metal lid from the jar, and remove the metal disc that sits on top of the lid. What you'll be left with is the round metal ring that screws onto the mouth of the jar.
Prep your frying pan with butter or oil as you usually would, and sit the metal ring directly in the center. Once the pan is hot enough, crack an egg into the middle of the ring.
Runny egg whites are not an issue; keep the ring level and don't move the pan. Let the egg cook inside the ring until it’s no longer runny, and remove the ring and flip the egg.
You could also scramble eggs inside the ring, keeping everything condensed together until it forms that classic patty shape. From there, you can serve the egg however you want.
If you don't have a mason jar ring, you can use cookie cutters instead. It's better to use metal cookie cutters rather than plastic to avoid damage from the heat of the pan.
