A Crispy Pita Bowl Is The Clever Trick For A More Delicious Salad
By Elizabeth Thorn
Toasting a large pita and carefully molding it into a bowl shape creates a unique, Mediterranean-inspired presentation for a salad while adding a nice crunch.
You can eat the bowl along with the salad as you go, making for a zero-waste, satisfying lunch or dinner with the perfect balance of texture and flavor.
To create the bowl base, microwave the pita bread for 15 to 30 seconds to soften it, then spray it lightly with non-stick spray.
Gently press it into an oven-safe bowl and bake it for about 20 minutes or until it's crispy and golden. Then, simply fill the pita with your favorite salad ingredients.
Get creative and add fresh, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, tangy feta cheese, briny olives, fresh herbs, and even Mediterranean marinated chicken for protein.
Another meal option is Mediterranean vegetable shakshuka, with tomatoes, eggplant, and spices. Pour it over rice in your crispy pita bowl before topping it with sunny-side-up eggs.
