This loaf has only one gram of sugar per slice and is sweetened with apple, pear, and peach juices. Its low sugar and moisture content is likely why it tastes dry and bland.
The addition of cracked wheat hinders this bread’s smoothness. Although they use bleached flour, adding rye and whole wheat flour seems to give this loaf a not-so-white hue.
Dave's Killer Bread recommends using it for BLTs, grilled cheese, or Reuben sandwiches. We agree that these are its best uses, but the rye isn't as strong as we would have hoped.
This loaf is soft and elastic, and even though there are a ton of ingredients, it really works. Our only complaint is that there are some flavors we like even better.
This is one of the loaves we’d be happy to eat on its own or use as a base for a sandwich. The moisture and texture are nearly perfect, with only three grams of sugar per slice.
