A while back I did an interview with Yu Ming O’Neil who talked to me about sparkling from the inside out aka what foods we should be eating to help our skin really shine. Since then I have been more conscious about what I’m consuming on a daily basis. In the past, my life consisted of frosted cupcakes and chocolate all day. Aside from noticing a dull complexion I was also starting to lose a lot of energy, something I can’t afford with so many projects going on!
I headed to the nearest Barnes and Nobles to pick up some smoothie and health food books and I decided to embark on a little smoothie journey. I started mixing, matching, and creating my own flavor combinations based on the tips the books provided. Recently, I set a goal for myself to drink at least one smoothie a day. I’m not talking about a smoothie loaded with artificial sweeteners and sugary products but instead loaded with whole fruits, veggies, and super foods!
When I first started experimenting with smoothies I was using a mini 12 oz blender but the power just wasn’t strong enough to chop everything up. Every time I would make a smoothie I would have to stop mid way and move the fruits and veggies around just to get a nice consistency. I wasn’t quite ready to splurge on a Vitamix so I opted for the Nutri Ninja instead which so far I am very pleased with! My only concern is that blending can be quite noisy and living in a New York apartment doesn’t help with neighbors being so close. I am probably going to have to start offering up free smoothies to my neighbors so I don’t get kicked out on a noise complaint!
Yu Ming also mentioned that it is important to drink plenty of water which is something I haven’t been so great about either. I’ve found it a bit easier to drink the daily recommended water amount when I add a little flavor to it. The one you see in the photos here is a simple cucumber and lemon combo. The bottle itself is a 500ml bottle from Drop. Using a larger water bottle also helps me to keep up with the daily recommended amount!
Do you have a favorite smoothie bowl or detox water?
