Slowly, Danny Meyer's Shake Shack is changing the landscape of the burger world. It started in Madison Square Park in 2001, with a hot dog cart created by Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy's first art installation. Fans of the cart lined up for three summers until USHG won the bid to open a permanent park kiosk. Then the real fun (and lines) started. The "roadside burger joint" started serving incredibly juicy burgers on potato rolls and rich, thick, creamy custards with mix-ins (concretes), and the best Chicago-style hot dog outside the Windy City. It took until 2007 for the Shack to stay open through winter, but it's since become a New York institution — and spread beyond its borders, immediately ranking among those locales best burgers. Menu additions, mash-ups, and location-specific items have followed at newly launched Shacks in New York, Connecticut, Florida, D.C., Philadelphia, the Middle East, and now London. Location specific items at the Downtown Brooklyn Shake Shack include the Urban LumberShack, and Fudge-eddaboutit, Borough Precedent concretes. — Arthur Bovino, 11/20/2012

  • On 12/20/11, I joined the ribbon cutting ceremony for this new Shake Shack!
  • Unlike the Manhattan locations, this one tends to keep their lines to a minimum, which is a huge plus. Now we don't have to wait as long to devour an amazing Shack Burger and Fries!
  • The Brooklyn location of our favorite New York burger chain.
  • You can't go wrong ordering yourself a Double Shack, and then splitting fries and an Arnold Palmer with a pretty girl.
  • A burger joint that treats it's employees well. Above average wages; profit sharing; and promotion to management.
  • Single burger patty is the way to go. Make sure to specify if you want lettuce, tomato, onions, or pickles, or else your burger will just be meat and cheese on a bun.
  • the single shack-burger has the perfect meat:bun ratio... the double is trouble!
  • Beware - overrun with strollers/kids on weekends.
  • The plywood's down, the griddles are fired up, and Shake Shack Brooklyn is just about ready to go..a huge dining room, plenty of windows, and new dishes-including one secret off-the-menu snack
  • The Shack is in Brooklyn! Just in front of Borough Hall, tasty burgers and marvellous shakes. Also, tables and wall wooden panels are recycled from a former bowling hall in NY state :)
  • You can choose 2 out of 3: double cheeseburger, cheese fries, malted shake. The trifecta is too much. Or is it?
  • Was not crazy about the burgers!
  • Great food ....wishing for WiFi and outdoor seating!!!
  • Think five guys but way better. Like a burger in your dads back yard. Get the red pepper sauce and add a little kick. Dont be a sally.
  • They changed the name of the hotdog from dapper dog to the dog meister still it is the best hotdog I've ever had
  • The only Shake Shack in NYC without an obnoxiously long, slow line.
  • This location features Brooklyn-based brands like Mast Brothers chocolate & Early Girl granola on desserts. Burgers & fries as tasty as all the other locations. YUM. (4 of 4 petals via Fondu)
  • Get the black & white milkshake with chocolate fudge & swirl in marshmallow!!!
  • Just love their shack burger. Single Shack Burger gives you perfect ratio of everything. Go for double if you are meat lover. Don't forget their cheese fries and a glass of beer, worth trying !
  • They have the best burgers and shakes.....went to the one on 44th street by time square Sun. Place is always crowded so if your with a group then have someone order while the rest find a spot to sit
