Since 1928, Sea Island has provided its guests with a combination of genuine hospitality and exceptional facilities in a stunning, natural setting. Nestled on Georgia’s Atlantic coast, and boasting a huge variety of activities, it is a destination unlike any other.
Recognition as a unique resort and its reputation for heartfelt service have earned Sea Island top honors in the world of hospitality. For the third consecutive year, it is the home of two of the top ten resorts in the Continental U.S., according to Travel + Leisure’s 2015 World’s Best Awards. With four Forbes Five-Star experiences—The Cloister at Sea Island, The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, The Spa at Sea Island, and the Georgian Room restaurant—it is the only resort in the world to have received four Forbes Five-Star awards for seven consecutive years.
Well known as a family resort, Sea Island features five miles of private beach, a Beach Club with three pools and an outstanding children’s program known as Camp Cloister, tennis and squash centers, Yacht Club, Shooting School, a 65,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, and nine dining options that range from casual to Forbes Five-Star venues.
Sea Island is steeped in golf tradition and is home to three championship golf courses, including Seaside and Plantation—home of the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic each fall, hosted by Sea Island touring professional and two-time Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III. Amenities also include the nation’s finest Golf Performance Center, where three of Golf Digest’s top instructors teach. With such extraordinary golf facilities, instructional capabilities and resort environments available to them, it is no surprise that roughly a dozen touring professionals call Sea Island home including such notables as Love, Open Champion and Masters winner Zach Johnson, Jonathan Byrd and Matt Kuchar.
Resort guests may also enjoy nearby Broadfield, a 5,800-acre Sea Island Sporting Club and Lodge, offering a variety of seasonal hunting, falconry, fishing, sporting and organic culinary opportunities. Broadfield sleeps up to 12 guests at a time.
Accommodation choices for Sea Island guests include The Cloister, The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, The Inn at Sea Island, and the Cottages. Guests staying at The Cloister have a number of options when it comes to choosing their guest room. From river views to ocean vistas, from the fun, family atmosphere of a Beach Club room to a more secluded suite, there is something to suit every requirement. And the location—just steps from the beach and in an ecologically important setting between ocean and marshland—provides an array of sporting, leisure and nature activities just steps away.
Located between two of Sea Island’s three golf courses, The Lodge at Sea Island offers ultimate privacy and luxury in the setting of an intimate English country manor house with only 40 rooms offering views of the Atlantic Ocean and golf course. The Lodge’s unprecedented gracious hospitality features first-class amenities including a 24-hour butler offering freshly baked cookies and a daily performance by the resort’s resident bagpiper at sundown.
Renting a cottage on Sea Island is a treasured tradition for many of the resort’s visitors and the ideal option for multi-generational families. Of approximately 600 privately owned cottages on Sea Island, 125 are available for rent. Each is uniquely designed, providing guests with a selection of styles and décor from which to choose. The homes range from three to seven bedrooms and most residences offer beach, salt marsh or tidal creek views. Rental of the Cottages includes complete access to dining, golf, spa, and resort privileges at The Cloister and The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club.
The newest addition to the Sea Island family is The Inn at Sea Island, a select service hotel located a mile from Sea Island proper. With 85 comfortable, casual rooms, The Inn offers guests the option of having access to Sea Island amenities and experiences if they so choose.
In addition to its many recreational opportunities, Sea Island’s creative programming brings a stimulating twist to the wide array of experiences a guest may enjoy. Examples for 2016 include a Downton Abbey-inspired weekend where guests mingle with some of the stars of the wildly popular PBS series as well as its producers, designers, and historical advisor; and a Geopolitical Conference with political and economic experts from the U.S. and U.K. discussing current events and the impact they will have on our lives. The third annual Creativity Conference offers the chance to engage with thinkers and innovators from the arts, sciences and media.
Although the resort has evolved and expanded over time, the history, traditions, and genuine warm service of Sea Island remains at its heart. More than its exceptional facilities, activities, and experiences, it is these intangibles that entice new guests to visit for the first time and bring generations of families back year after year.
