Tips

  • Order as much as you can off the specials board (each is 2 pieces btw). Do not miss the White Tuna Toro if it's on the board!
  • Best sushi. Cool little basement place on the hill. -Stephen Hopcraft, Top Chef
  • Try the volcano roll. It has shrimp cucumber and peanut butter! Different but delicious!
  • Always get the toro. It's so expensive ($18 for 2 pieces) but so worth it.
  • A favorite late night stop of many industry folk. [Eater 38 Member]
  • Be nice to the waitstaff. They're super polite and patient despite being mobbed constantly from open to close. No, they didn't forget about you...especially since this is the fifth time you've asked.
  • I never will come to SF ever in my life without coming here. Absolutely awesome.
  • Go for the omakase.
  • Put down the menu. Look up at the daily specials. Tell your waiter your life is in her hands. But, demand the toro.
  • Some of the best sushi I've had! California roll is excellent, try the Pokemon and volcano rolls too
  • The volcano roll sounds weird (shrimp, jalapeos and peanut butter) but is fantastic.
  • Open late!!!
  • The Pokemon role is awesome - and you don't need to love mango either.
  • Enjoy the freshest sushi with killer daily specials from Japan (ask for reccos). The Volcano and/or Sexy Rolls are equally .com. This & Saru Sushi Bar are two of the best joints in the state/land
  • One of the best Sushi spots in the city! I love their White Tuna Toro... It's everything!
  • Great mix of funky and traditional sushi, sashimi, and maki. Super friendly staff, cheap drinks, full bar. DJ on Friday and Saturday nights. Back tatami room for private parties. LOVE RYOKO!
  • The sashimi here is top-notch! Really tasty and high quality. Ask the server for her recommendations off the daily chef specials. And the beef oroshi appetizer is a must! Generous portion and tasty!
  • Love the late weekday hours, upbeat music, and dark underground setting!
  • The volcano roll is the best sushi in SF, making our list of "The Tastes That Make the City: SF Edition."
  • Try the California rolls
