Tips

  • The audio guide, here called "multimedia tour", is an iOS app: if you already have an iOS device, you don't need to pay the 5 to rent a device: you can just download the Rijksmuseum app on the Store!
  • Forget about getting an audio tour: just download the Rijksmuseum app for Android and iPhone. It not only gives you more in-depth commentary, but also allows you to bookmark things you like.
  • This one of the most important museums in Amsterdam. Go here if you want to see works by the Dutch Masters or famous creations such as Vermeer's The Milkmaid and Rembrandt's The Night Watch.

  • You don't need to book the multimedia tour. You just need the free app. It's the same that you get with the iPod Touch from the counter. It's also free wifi in the museum.
  • This museum is absurd. Watch out for: elevators taking you out of the museum, divided floors forcing you to double back a few condignations, one-way doorways and so on. Veermer is very nice though.
  • Go on an off-day (i.e. Monday) when the wait is not long to get into the museum and not as crowded. Very impressive collection of Dutch art like Vermeer and Rembrandt.

  • If you don't have the time or the patience to see the entire museum, at least visit the 2nd floor. This is dedicated to the 17th century, the Dutch Golden Age, and is the highlight of the museum.
  • In de tuin kun je heerlijk koffie drinken en de beelden en fontein zien. Toegang gratis
  • Small but nice museum. The "castle" were the museum is in, is awesome by itself!
  • Unbelievable collection of Rembrandt and Vermeer. There are also many other stunning objects of art from other dutch artists. Get a Holand Pass and skip the long lines.
