  • Just a shout away from the former Armadillo World Headquarters, Threadgills offers Southern food and regular live music.
  • Be sure to ask your waiter or waitress for "second helpings" of whichever vegetables you order with your meal. It's an old Threadgill's tradition and they're FREE!
  • Interesting: this building used to be the home of the Armadillo World Headquarters as one of the early catalysts of the Austin music scene. Janis Joplin got her start at the original at 6414 N. Lamar!
  • Second helpings of vegetable sides (we're looking at you too, mac & cheese) are free, so remind your waiter or waitress when you're cravin' fried pickles.
  • Darn good country food! The 3 veggie plate is great & so are the fried green tomatoes & the chicken fried steak!
  • Top tip is incorrect. Armadillo World Headquarters was next door; but AWH's spirit lives on in the art on the walls and in TWH's beer garden when the music gets under way.
  • Fantastic Sunday brunch here! Arrive early for a seat close to the live gospel band.
  • Get here early - this place gets busy FAST.
  • check out the old concert posters.
  • Honestly I had the chicken fried steak, not sure why everyone is saying it is the best in Austin. To me it is just Average. It's very plain with not much taste. But the walls are cool.
  • Do the Sunday morning gospel brunch! Get here about 10:30 for a good seat in the saloon, you won't be sorry! The mimosas and sweet potato pancakes are the ish!
  • Their sides are almost universally excellent. If I were to ever "leave" my wife, she knows she can find me in a giant vat of their Scalloped Potatoes.
  • Probably the best chicken fried steak in Austin.
  • The sides are amazing and the selection thereof is extensive. You're going to have to go a few times just for those delicious Southern sides. The vintage advertising's also a real treat for the eyes.
  • Worst service and rudest staff ever. Worse than NYC and that is saying saying something.
  • Everything's good.
  • The great Nakia preformed here.
  • Rolls, not roles...damn auto correct.
  • The dinner roles are amazing!
  • Always turn down the music in my car when riding by to hear what awesome band is playing. Bob Schneider's Texas Bluegrass Massacre is scheduled here during SXSW! More info on
