  • Great izakaya. No reservations. Always long waits. Incredibly fun. Order mercilessly and carelessly.
  • I love this izakaya. Just when you thought there was no cool place to eat in this 'hood. Go downstairs, grab a table in the nook or the bar (only two spots I like) and try everything on the menu

  • This buzzy, underground izakaya defies its dowdy location in the heart of Times Square with authentic Japanese flavors that would scare the fanny pack off most tourists.
  • Escape the Midtown madness: disappear downstairs to this underground izakaya. Order a pitcher ($10), multiples of chicken skin ($1.50), beef tongue ($6), or the funky, delicious smelt ($4).
  • Kimchee yaki udon. Thank me later.
  • Tucked away in Times Square is this often crowded Japanese spot. You won't find sushi on the menu here but don't fret - the wasabi octopus will leave you wanting more!
  • Come here & say kon'nichiwa to low prices on sake & Japanese fare. Get chicken & liver skewers ($1.50 each) & sake or a mixed drink for $4.
  • Try yellowtail collar here. They don't always have it but when they do you won't regret it.

  • Love this place! Always a wait, but don't be deterred. I recommend: hokke (smoked mackerel), bacon wrapped enoki, and fried squid, but everything good. Cheap draft beer (Kirin and Sapporo) too!
  • Ask the waitress for recommendations on sake and she might bring you a flight. The fried gizzards and pork belly skewers are superb.
  • Egg on egg on egg is the most decadent and tasteful dish.

  • The Kimchi udon is the bomb also the Tofu in broth mouth watering.
