Tips

  • Check out David Waltuck of Chanterelle's new spot on Park Ave South. Try the famous grilled seafood sausage, or a newbie to the menu like the stuffed chicken wings!
  • Order the duck fat hash brown ($8). The lardy puck tosses shoestring-thin russet potatoes with onions in silky duck fat, pressed until the edges are golden brown and exceptionally crunchy.
  • Try the new blackberry-blueberry tart with corn ice cream and basil reduction. Created by lan's pastry chef Diana Valenzuela.
  • It is impossible to take just one bite of the foie gras duck burger, and the General Tso's sweetbreads will convert reluctant sweetbreads virgins.
  • Started w the sea urchin guacamole, grilled seafood sausage, and zucchini/squash blossoms - very highly recommended. Had the duck as my main and it was unreal.

  • Good raw oysters with creme fraiche though a bit large. Delicious, bright citrus salad. Tasty tea-smoked salmon main (though a bit overhyped). Holiday cassoulet can be skipped, overabundance of beans!
  • The 'This Just In' cocktail is spicy, sour, sweet, fantastic. Plus, when she brought it to me, she said 'this just in', totally straight faced, which I loved.
  • lan serves contemporary American a la carte dishes at contemporary Manhattan prices. Try the paper-thin, soy- and sake-cured beef, air-dried and served with king oyster mushrooms in lemon cream.
  • By opening in the Flatiron district, Waltuck is announcing both that hes in the big-boys club ... and that hes playing it safe. Thats O.K., though, since Waltucks safe is delicious and decadent.
  • The green papaya salad is possibly the best thing to happen to food since fire.
  • If you are in lan, try a Margarita with Pueblo Viejo Blanco.
  • Their weekend prix fixe brunch may be the best deal in town.

  • Service with a smile. Everything we ordered was superb: the duck special, cornish hen, OCTOPUS grilled to perfection, and interesting wine list. Art show rotates for different ambiance.
  • Seafood sausage for dinner & brunch are amazing! Pro tip: They serve the Sea urchin guacamole at brunch even though it isn't on the brunch menu.
  • Limited menu selection, priced too high. Good ambience for a group brunch
