Tips
- This is a neighborhood shop dedicated to scratch cooking. It draws inspiration from East London, but the sandwiches are just as much influenced by Argentine or Vietnamese street vendors.
- What's that creeping? Oh, just stacks on stacks of brined brisket, w/ house pickles spilling out between toasted rye.
- One of the top burgers in DC here called, appropriately, the Proper Burger: two patties topped with Gouda, charred red onion, sweet chili sauce, dill pickles, rocket & garlic aioli on a brioche bun.
- Best Burger and Mac and cheese I've had in DC. Someone needs to tell them to get a host tho. People walk in and walk out because they have no idea what to do/where to order.
- Nice new neighborhood bar, serves food and drink late on weekends.
- This place is pretty awesome.
- The Spicy McHaggis is a knockout sandwich! Seared haggis, fried egg, grain mustard, hot sauce, & rocket on sourdough bread!
- If you come for a late dinner a number of their fav dishes are sold out.
- The brick Lane salt-beef sarnie has beef brined for two weeks in a bath of brown sugar and 20 spices; simmered for hours and stacked on rye with house-made pickles and mustard.
- Can sometimes be a bit difficult to get attention at the bar (if you're lucky enough to get a seat), but the food is worth it. Cheese Toasty and Pumpkin Curry are out of this world.
- Really bad service.
- Best Mac & Cheese, ever.
- , , , Proper Burger
- Brioche bun burgers tend to have too much bread. Not here. The burger is nearly perfectly balanced, like most of their sandwiches. Thumbs up.
- Voted "Worst Service" in 2014 by Bitches Who Brunch.
- Cubano sandwich is a must-try!
- The Proper Burger is what every burger should aspire to be.
- Life-altering brunch burger. Bloody Mary is great, but stir well.
- Crushes survived! Upstairs bar is great for day drinks.
- Loved the Spicey Aubergine sandwich.
