Strawberry-Avocado Caprese Salad Recipe

The classic Caprese salad has been around for ages and you can oftentimes find it on the menu at your favorite restaurant. According to Basta Pasta, people first served Caprese salad in the 1920s in Italy after World War I. The early salad consisted of mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and basil leaves, but nowadays, there are plenty of variations and ways to serve the Caprese. This recipe this twist includes strawberries and avocado, which gives you another serving of fruit and vegetable.

Recipe developer Christina Musgrave came up with this fresh salad that takes your Caprese game up a notch. "I love the fresh flavors in this dish. It's a really fresh and light twist for a Caprese salad that will brighten up any meal," she shares. And while you can serve it as the main event, Musgrave likes to serve it on the side. "I would serve this as a side dish with a light pasta salad, salad with grilled chicken, or chicken dish," she suggests.

Gather the ingredients for this strawberry-avocado Caprese salad

You can find most of the ingredients for this recipe in the produce section. Pick up Roma tomatoes, strawberries, a ripe avocado, mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic glaze, and fresh basil

Now, you can get started on this refreshing strawberry avocado Caprese salad.

Arrange the ingredients

Grab a serving plate and add the tomatoes, strawberries, avocado, and mozzarella. As a reminder, you should have chopped these ahead of time. "The slices should be a standard size for a Caprese salad, about ⅛ inch," Musgrave notes.

You can arrange the ingredients any way you like, and feel free to get creative. "My advice for this recipe is to evenly space out the different ingredients so you can get a little bit of everything in each bite!" Musgrave suggests.

Add the dressing and basil

To keep things close to a traditional Caprese salad, you will just need to drizzle extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze over the top. This makes things easy!

The last thing you will need to add is fresh basil. Not only does the basil make it look pretty, but it also adds a sweet and savory taste that adds even more flavor to the salad.

Serve and enjoy

Now, the only thing left to do is dig in! This salad is excellent as the main course on its own, or it would make a great side. Musgrave loves to pair the salad as a side to the main course, serving it with a protein like chicken or a light pasta salad.

It's also best to enjoy this right away. "Leftovers don't keep super well for this one, so I recommend serving and eating immediately," Musgrave shares.
