A clever new festival from the folks behind The New School’s 2014 Best New Brewery at Stormbreaker pairs local craft brewers with local artisan spirits makers in the Brewstillery Fest this Saturday, February 28th. Having got an advanced preview of many of these pairings, I can tell you they can be as enlightening and mind opening as the best beer and cheese pairing you have ever had. Pairings range from obvious choices lime Migration Brewing’s Rye whiskey barrel-aged Dark Hearted CDA with Indio Spirits’ James Oliver Rye Whiskey to Breakside & Fat Head’s Juggling Plums Gose with Aviation Gin. Some beers are created just for this festival for ideal pairings, and some are aged in the old barrels of the same spirits with which they are paired. To keep fest goers from getting too drunk, each 4oz sample of beer or 1/4 ounce of spirit will be 1 ticket a piece separately.
Advance tickets are now on sale for $20 ($25 day of event), which includes tasting glass and 10 tickets at http://www.stormbreakerbrewing.com/brewstillery-fest.html
